About me

My name is Kevin, I live in the US (EST), and I am currently a senior in high school taking various courses including classes such as multivariable calculus and AP micro and macroeconomics. I will be graduating high school in June. Out of school I enjoy playing video games (of course) in addition to embarking on different projects on my own. I enjoy building things, and in the past have built Arduino projects, my own computer, and an instrument that is perfectly in tune up to + or - 0.25Hz or less.

Why I would like to become a Chatmod

As I’m sure every applicant says, I love Minecraft. Lichcraft was the only server that I consistently came on as the community was truly welcoming to everyone. I played most on the survival server because bartering and creating large scale chest shops were my absolute favorite thing to do. However, above all, my fondest memory of the server was getting a large group of friends and taking over arena 24 on hunger games.

I would like to become chat moderator on Lichcraftia because I want to be able to aid others in implementing their vision of the server into reality. Each one of us has individual goals for Lichcraftia, whether that be the preservation of this tight-knit community of a handful of people, or a return to the glory of old Lichcraft with thousands of concurrent players. I want to achieve a harmony within the dissonance and be part of the team that will take their vision, this goal of the people, and execute it to the best of my ability.

The first step to achieving this goal is to ensure that everyone on the server is truly enjoying themselves. When disagreements come about, I want to be the one that brings both sides together to discuss and reach an agreement. This requires me to be able to keep a level head, rational, and unbiased under any circumstance, which I believe I am able to do.

In a nutshell, I want to be a part of the support staff of Lichcraftia because I believe that I can guide the server through its next step in development, whatever that may be.

Examples of me helping others

I never intended to use helping people as an aid in any application, so unfortunately, I do not have any screenshots. However, I have helped various people with fixing farms, building chest shops, and in areas of general command help.

Punishments

I have been kicked/punished for autoclicking.

Do I have any past experiences?

Although I do not have any past experience on the staff of any Minecraft server, I do have multiple real-life leadership positions. In school I’m president of Stock Market club, Science Olympiad, and AP Minecraft club. As stock market club president, I was the first in club history to successfully enter a team into The University of Pennsylvania Wharton’s KWHS investment competition (Wharton is widely recognized as the best business school in the US). For Science Olympiad I’m responsible for balancing our budget of over a thousand dollars, in addition to micro-managing 30 members across 2 teams and 23 different events. And as AP Minecraft Club president I’m responsible for structuring and implementing both a Minecraft midterm and an AP test for fifty or so members. While I do realize that you are mainly looking for past experience with being staff on a minecraft server, I'm confident that I can translate and apply my leadership abilities from outside, into being staff on Lichcraftia.

Do I have any programming experiences?

I have relatively limited programming experience. I’ve worked and am relatively familiar with TI-Basic and Arduino, but have also dabbled in Python, Axe Parser, Batch and Assembly. I’m a quick learner so I can take care of whatever is thrown at me, but as of now I only have a limited amount of knowledge on the more useful higher-level languages like HTML, Java, CSS, ect.

Its less of a club since all we do is take a midterm and final. For context, in the US, AP stands for advanced placement, which are "college" level courses that are offered at many high schools. Here's a few sample questions that have been used on past exams.

Minecraft is actually surprisingly popular at my school interesting enough. Approximately 13% of my grade level plans to attend the tests.

Multiple Choice:

24. In the nether, nether quartz ore is about as abundant as which ore in the overworld?
a) Coal
b) Iron
c) Redstone
d) Gold
e) Diamond

25. Suppose a torch (light level 14) is placed in a large flat cavern at (x,y,z)=(1,100,1).
What is the light level at (4,100,-3), assuming no other light sources?
a) 7
b) 9
c) 10
d) 11
e) 12

26. The default flat surface area enclosed by the world border is about how many blocks?
a) 2.3*10^14
b) 9.0*10^14
c) 1.8*10^15
d) 3.6*10^15
e) 1.8*10^17

Short answer:

1. Designing redstone circuits is an important part of Minecraft. Answer the following parts
of this question about redstone circuits.
a) Briefly identify how both of the following could limit the functionality of a redstone
torch in a circuit.
i) Lag from block updates

ii) Robustness (update speed)

b) Complete the last three rows of the following logic table, which shows the output
(ON or OFF) for a logic gate given the inputs (ON or OFF) for A and B. The first two
rows have already been correctly filled in.

(I was unable to convert the table over, however the questions tests simple logic gates Ex. AND, OR, NOR, XOR)

c) Using only the blocks listed below, draw two redstone clocks. On the left, draw a
redstone clock with a shorter delay than the clock on the right. The clock must
operate with no player interaction. Assume that all blocks are placed simultaneously.
You may use:
• Stone blocks (opaque)
• Redstone dust
• Redstone torches
• Redstone repeaters
Left (shorter delay) Right (longer delay)

d) Identify and explain one potential use for a block update detector (BUD)
